Scrupulosity is a form of OCD centered on religious or moral fears — relentless guilt, doubt about whether you’ve sinned, and compulsive praying, confessing, or checking. It can be exhausting and isolating, especially for devout individuals. At Therapy Utah, we treat scrupulosity with evidence-based, faith-respecting care.
What Scrupulosity Looks Like
Intrusive blasphemous or immoral thoughts, fear of having offended God, endless reassurance-seeking, and rituals that never quite relieve the doubt. It’s a misfire of the brain’s alarm system — not a measure of your faith or your worth.
How It’s Treated
Like other forms of OCD, scrupulosity responds well to Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), delivered in a way that respects your beliefs. We also help with the religious shame that often accompanies it, and can offer faith-sensitive care.
