Trauma & PTSD Therapy in Lehi, Utah

Trauma & PTSD Therapy in Lehi, Utah

What happened to you was real, and the way your mind and body still react makes sense. At Therapy Utah, our trauma-trained therapists help you process painful experiences safely so they stop controlling your present and you can feel grounded again.

You don’t have to carry it alone

Trauma changes how the brain and body respond to the world. With the right care, those responses can heal.

Trauma isn’t only about catastrophic events. It can come from a single frightening experience, from ongoing stress or abuse, or from things that happened so long ago you’ve tried to forget them. When the nervous system gets stuck in survival mode, the past keeps intruding on the present through flashbacks, anxiety, numbness, or a constant sense of being on guard. None of that is a character flaw. It’s how a protective brain responds to overwhelm, and it can change.

When you reach out, we schedule an intake and full assessment, then carefully match you with a therapist trained in trauma work. Clinicians like Whitney Evans, Amanda Heaton, and Holly Martinez-Voisin use specialized methods to help your brain and body finish processing what they couldn’t at the time. We move at your pace and prioritize safety throughout. Many of our therapists also support related needs, from anxiety and depression to somatic therapy. For relationship-based wounds, see our work in betrayal trauma.

What trauma and PTSD can look like

You don’t need every symptom on this list. If several feel familiar, trauma-focused therapy may help.

  • Flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive memories
  • Feeling constantly on edge or easily startled
  • Avoiding people, places, or reminders of what happened
  • Emotional numbness or feeling disconnected
  • Trouble sleeping or concentrating
  • Irritability, anger, or sudden mood shifts
  • Shame, guilt, or blaming yourself
  • Physical tension, panic, or a body that won’t relax

If you’re in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) anytime, or call 911 in an emergency.

How we treat trauma

Our methods are evidence-based and trauma-focused, and we tailor them to you and your sense of safety.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing helps the brain reprocess stuck traumatic memories so they lose their charge and stop hijacking the present.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

ART uses guided eye movements to quickly and gently resolve distressing images and memories, often in fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS, or parts work, helps you understand and care for the wounded and protective parts that trauma created, restoring a sense of inner safety and wholeness.

Somatic & trauma-focused CBT

Body-based (somatic) work helps release trauma stored in the nervous system, while trauma-focused CBT addresses the beliefs and reactions that keep you stuck.

Trauma therapy FAQ

A few of the questions we hear most often about getting started.

Will I have to relive every detail of what happened?

No. Effective trauma therapy doesn’t require retelling everything in graphic detail. Methods like EMDR and ART help your brain process memories without you having to relive them moment by moment. We always build safety and stability first and move at your pace.

What’s the difference between EMDR and ART?

Both use guided eye movements to help the brain reprocess painful memories. ART tends to be more structured and often works in fewer sessions, while EMDR is widely researched and highly effective. Your therapist will recommend the best fit for you, and many of our clinicians are trained in both.

How long does trauma therapy take?

It varies. Some people see meaningful relief from a single distressing memory in a handful of sessions, while complex or long-standing trauma takes longer. We’ll talk openly about your goals and progress and adjust the plan as we go.

What if I don’t think my experience was “bad enough”?

If something still affects how you feel, sleep, or relate to others, it’s worth addressing, no matter how it compares to anyone else’s story. Trauma is about how your nervous system responded, not about ranking what happened. You deserve support.

Is online trauma therapy available?

Yes. Many trauma approaches, including EMDR and ART, can be done effectively online. You can meet with your therapist in our Lehi office or from wherever you feel safest and most comfortable.
