Depression Therapy in Lehi, Utah

When everything feels heavy and joy is hard to find, getting through the day takes everything you have. At Therapy Utah, our licensed therapists help you understand what’s underneath the heaviness and find your way back to energy, hope, and connection.

Depression is real, and it’s treatable

You’re not lazy, broken, or weak. Depression is a condition, and it responds to good care.

Depression can feel like moving through fog: the things you used to enjoy fall flat, small tasks feel impossible, and it’s easy to believe nothing will change. It can also look like irritability, exhaustion, or numbness rather than sadness. However it shows up for you, you don’t have to push through it alone, and feeling this way now doesn’t mean you’ll always feel this way.

When you reach out, we schedule an intake and full assessment, then match you with the therapist whose approach fits you best. Several of our therapists specialize in mood and depression. Clinicians like Garrett Cotterell, Whitney Evans, and Lynsie Atalifo combine practical, structured tools with deeper work on the roots of how you’re feeling. Because depression often overlaps with other struggles, we can also help with anxiety, unresolved trauma, grief, or strain in your relationships through couples counseling.

What depression can look like

You don’t need every symptom on this list. If several feel familiar most days, it’s worth reaching out.

  • Persistent sadness, emptiness, or numbness
  • Losing interest in things you used to enjoy
  • Fatigue and low energy, even after rest
  • Trouble sleeping, or sleeping too much
  • Changes in appetite or weight
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or hopelessness
  • Irritability, withdrawal, or thoughts that life isn’t worth it

If you’re in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) anytime, or call 911 in an emergency.

How we treat depression

Our methods are evidence-based, and we tailor them to you rather than running you through a script.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps you recognize and shift the negative thought patterns that keep depression going, building more balanced thinking and steadier moods over time.

Behavioral activation

When depression saps your motivation, behavioral activation helps you re-engage with meaningful activity in small, doable steps, so action leads the way back to energy and mood.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT helps you relate to painful thoughts and feelings differently and reconnect with what gives your life meaning, even while you’re still healing.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS, or parts work, helps you understand and soften the inner critic and the protective parts that carry shame and hopelessness, so you can feel more whole and self-compassionate.

Depression therapy FAQ

A few of the questions we hear most often about getting started.

How do I know if it’s depression or just a rough patch?

Everyone has hard days. Depression is when low mood, loss of interest, or numbness sticks around most of the day, most days, for a couple of weeks or more and starts affecting your sleep, work, or relationships. An intake assessment helps us understand what you’re dealing with.

Do I need medication, or is therapy enough?

Many people improve with therapy alone. For others, especially with more severe depression, a combination of therapy and medication works best. We don’t prescribe, but we’ll gladly coordinate with your physician or a psychiatric provider if that’s a direction you want to explore.

What if I don’t have the energy to start?

That’s one of the hardest parts of depression, and it’s exactly why reaching out matters. Getting started is a small step, and your therapist will help you take the next ones at a pace that works. You don’t have to feel motivated first.

Which approach will you use with me?

It depends on you. We often combine CBT and behavioral activation to interrupt the cycle, and add ACT or IFS to work on deeper patterns of shame and self-criticism. Your assessment and first sessions help us build the right plan.

Is online depression therapy available?

Yes. You can meet with your therapist in our Lehi office or online from wherever you feel most comfortable.
